UK Comics With Free Gifts

Comic free gifts are small but revealing pieces of publishing and childhood history. Designed to add excitement to an issue and encourage readers to return, these objects extended the comic beyond the printed page. Surviving examples connect specific titles and characters with the everyday material culture of young readers: plastic novelties, wearable accessories, transfers and toys that carried fictional worlds into homes and playgrounds.
